BH Spartan Youth Football prides itself, on safety, fun, and encouragement of the youth player within our program. The program was designed to mirror our own BH Varsity Football program in that we practice, preach, and play using the same playbook, coaching methods, and positive reinforcement that is used throughout all BH-BL athletic programs.

Three levels of programs will be available this season.

Flag Football -

Designed for beginners this program, will help to develop the skills needed along with the basic fundamentals of the game of football. The program is designed to reinforce the basics of positions on both offense and defense, general rules of the game, and promote a general love for the game. This is a non-contact level sport. There will be no equipment provided by the league except a game shirt. Practices are typically limited and at the discretion of the coaches as to length and frequency. Games are usually scheduled on Saturday mornings.  As with any team sport, full participation is expected at both practice and on game days as reliance is placed on positions, and their importance within the team setting.

3/4 Junior Tackle:

Junior tackle is designed as an introduction into tackle football. The young players should understand positions and the basic rules of the game prior to sign up. More developed plays are introduced at this level on both the offense and defensive side of the ball. At this level, for the safety of the players weight limits are introduced in that it will determine the positions that the player may be able eligible to play at.  As a 3/4 junior tackle player the student is expected to participate fully in practices and on game days. Team sizes limit us from having multiple players at each position so missing practices can harm the team and/or can cause safety concerns by putting players in positions that they don’t usually practice in. The league provides the youth player with a certified helmet, proper shoulder pads, and game day jersey and pants. In addition the youth player will be required to have and wear at ALL times an athletic supporter, a mouth guard, padded practice pants, proper practice jersey, and proper footwear (outdoor, non-metal cleats.) Additional equipment that may be worn for personal preference include arm, back, kidney and chest pads. Water is not provided during games or practice.

5/6 Senior Tackle:

Senior tackle is designed to advance the level of play in tackle football. Players should understand positions, recognize basic plays, and be able to execute those plays with little to no instruction. More developed plays are introduced at this level on both the offense and defensive side of the ball. Safety of the players is further enhanced with the strict adhesion to weight limits that were introduced in the 3/4 level of play. More drills and development within skilled, line, and receiving positions are taught at this level based on BH-BL Varsity High School standards.  Each 5/6 Senior tackle player is expected to participate fully in practices and on game days, actively participate in group discussions within a team environment, and begin to be more comfortable taking a leadership role when asked to do so. Team sizes limit us from having multiple players at each position so missing practices can harm the team and/or can cause safety concerns by putting players in positions that they don’t usually practice in. The league provides the youth player with a certified helmet, proper shoulder pads, and game day jersey and pants.
